Recreational Therapy Philosophy

Recreational Therapy serves many purposes: expressive language skills, social responses, fine motor functional ability and so many more. In order for the therapist to be effective they must determine deficit areas and structure the session to address any physical, visual, and communication areas. This is done to ensure the most therapeutic milieu that will assist client in meeting their goals.

Recreational Therapy Philosophy: If a client is not enjoying what they are doing, then it is not therapeutic. Active engagement is the key.

I graduated from Central Michigan University with a BA in Therapeutic Recreation and Health Education. I became certified through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) following my internship at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and the Maine-Niles Association for special recreation in Illinois.
